Troubleshooting Your Gas Heating System

 

If you sense an issue with your heating system, ignoring it is the last thing you want to do. There’s no denying your heating system is one of the more critical components of your home.

Year in and year out, you depend on it to provide warmth and comfort to your home throughout the cold winters here in the northeast. Typically, home furnaces have a lifespan of around 15 years. While most operate smoothly during that time, there may be an issue here or there to deal with.

Here are some of the most common home heating system issues and some of the possible causes.


1. No Heat

Possibility 1: Tripped fuse controlling the furnace or circuit breaker

Possibility 2: Thermostat malfunction

2. Constantly Cycling Off and On

Possibility 1: Dirty Air Filter

3. Insufficient Heat

4. Noisy

The type of sound being produced by a noisy heating system can often be a clue as to what the actual issue is.

Possibility 1: Low rumble noise may be caused by dirty burners

Possibility 2: If your hearing a high pitched noise, that could be related to a certain part(s) that need to be oiled
